Dinner with the Master Chefs

Production of a culinary tribute film – Dinner in honor of Bernard Paco, Paris

On December 7, 2025, a special dinner was held at Le Mimosa, just a stone’s throw from Place Vendôme.
An intimate and prestigious event, designed as a tribute to the career of Chef Bernard Paco, a respected figure in French gastronomy and the iconic chef of L’Ambroisie.

My role: to produce a 1-minute-30-second video in 16:9 aspect ratio for internal and archival use, to be distributed to guests and kept on file by the restaurant.

A tribute dinner bringing together the leading figures of French gastronomy

This dinner was neither a traditional PR event nor a public gathering.
Above all, it was a time for recognition and passing on knowledge, bringing together chefs, friends, and loved ones who have, in one way or another, shaped Bernard Paco’s career.

Among the guests were several leading figures in French gastronomy, including Pierre Hermé, who specially created the dessert for the dinner.
The chef of Le Mimosa restaurant, meanwhile, designed a bespoke menu that resonated with the spirit and culinary heritage of the evening.

Filming the kitchen as a living, emotional space

The video focuses on showcasing culinary expertise, but also—and above all—on the people behind the kitchen.

I deliberately spent a lot of time:

  • in kitchens,

  • in preparations,

  • in those moments of quiet anticipation before the service,

  • in conversations among chefs.

The goal wasn’t to over-stylize, but to capture things as they are:
the precise movements, the focused gazes, the silences, the subtle smiles.
That’s often where the most beautiful culinary stories unfold.

A Bold Inspiration: The Visual Language of *The Bear*

The film’s visual style is clearly inspired by The Bear.
Not to replicate it, but to borrow certain narrative and aesthetic conventions:

  • camera close to the action,

  • a behind-the-scenes look,

  • organic rhythm,

  • powerful and organic color grading

  • emphasis on the chefs' emotions rather than the decor.

This reference was particularly apt here: a team, controlled pressure, high standards, and above all, a deep respect for the craft.

Highlighting a culinary heritage

Beyond the cuisine, the film was also meant to pay tribute to Bernard Paco.
To his career, of course, but above all to the personal connections he has forged over the years.

The video sparks a conversation:

  • his presence,

  • the guest chefs,

  • the stares,

  • shared gestures,

  • those moments in time.

No on-camera interviews.
No heavy-handed commentary.
Just through imagery, rhythm, and atmosphere.
